The Pouilly-Fume Domaine Guy Baudin Fume du Milieu 2022 Vieilles Vignes is crafted from the finest Sauvignon Blanc grapes, featuring a bold label that adds a touch of playfulness. Made from the vineyard's most mature vines, this wine boasts a unique blend of masculinity and humor.
This exquisite Sauvignon Blanc boasts a delightful combination of herbaceous notes of freshly cut grass and gooseberry, with a subtle undertone of minerality that adds depth to the flavor profile. The medium-bodied texture perfectly balances smoothness and richness, further complemented by a burst of ripe citrus fruit and a hint of smoky minerals that linger on the palate. With an alcohol content of 13%, this Pouilly Fume is perfect for those who prefer a light, refreshing wine with a subtle kick.
Organic in conversion: Wine is made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides in the vineyard.
Natural unfiltered wine. You may be surprised to learn that unfiltered wines can be just as clear as filtered wines. This means that any remaining particles in the bottle have a minimal effect on the wine's overall texture and taste.
Unfiltered wines are likely to develop particles over time. Although this is a natural occurrence and not harmful, some consumers might dislike a wine's appearance.
Pouilly-Fume wines, known for their dryness and low alcohol content, pair well with various dishes. They are delightful with seasonal vegetables like white asparagus, seafood, fish, and poultry. Additionally, they complement Japanese cuisine, including sushi, sashimi, fresh goat cheese, and creamy Brie.
Winemaking: Vinification of Pouilly Fume and Pouilly Sur Loire:
Vinification is a crucial stage that determines the orientation of the wine, and it is said that it reveals the winemaker's personality.
With us, we take precedence over authenticity, and each vintage will be different because the yeasts naturally present on the grapes will determine the wine's taste. Sunshine, rain, and possible climatic hazards will be predominant.
-Vieilles vignes (old vines) over 50 years old.
-100% manual harvest.
-Pressing (pneumatic press).
-Alcoholic fermentation.
-Aging on the lees in stainless steel vats (the aging on the lees gives the wine its amplitude, its fatness).
-Racking, then aging in cement vats for 1 year.
The label history of Fume du Milieu, a wine produced in the Pouilly region, is quite interesting. Every year, the winegrowers must adhere to strict guidelines while cultivating the grapes and undergo a tasting process before selling the wine. In case of non-compliance, the Pouilly Fumé appellation may be revoked. Unfortunately, in 2010, his father, Guy Baudin, was denied the appellation for a reason that was too vague and unfair, despite the exceptional quality of his wine. As a result, he decided to sell it as Vin de France with a basic label. Later, a sommelier friend who was a wine salesman with connections with the Cine Hebdo newspaper discovered the wine's excellence and suggested creating a new label. With his father's consent, his friend approached someone associated with Charlie Hebdo to design a new label, and thus, the quirky Fume du Milieu label was born. The name is a nod to the Pouilly Bridge, which sits in the middle of the Loire River, and the wine's vintage, which can be found on either side of the river. The label design also includes some humorous elements.
They've achieved great success with our cuvée Fume du Milieu since 2010 and now produce it annually. This wine is crafted much like our traditional "Les Charmes" cuvée but focuses on selecting the best plots of our oldest vines.
