Gigondas Domaine Saint Gayan “In Nomine Patris” 2020100% Grenache | 95 pts Decanter | Extremely Limited (100 cases produced)
A rare, old-vine Gigondas crafted only in top vintages. Sourced from century-old Grenache vines and produced in just 100 cases, this is a highly allocated cuvée with only a small quantity available in Japan.
95 points – Decanter (Natalie Earl) Deeply concentrated and packed with character. Crushed violets and cherries leap out first, followed by pure raspberries. The acidity runs long and fluid, while the tannins feel massy but never austere. Toast, candied cranberries and dark brooding fruit build through the finish. And then suddenly, soaring freshness. Drink 2026-36.
Winemaking
Crafted by Christian-Yves Carré de Lusançay as a tribute to his family heritage, this cuvée reflects a meticulous, low-intervention approach:
- 24 months aging in clay amphorae and large French oak
- Bottled unfiltered
- Focus on purity, texture, and site expression
Tasting Profile
Full-bodied and precise, with layers of black cherry, wild forest fruits, and cassis. A subtle mineral edge from the clay-limestone soils lifts the wine, leading to fine-grained tannins and a long, balanced finish. Approachable with decanting in its youth, it will gain depth and complexity over the next 8–12 years.
Food Pairing
A natural match for bold, savory cuisine:
- Grilled ribeye, lamb with rosemary, beef short ribs
- Duck confit, venison, and game
- Cassoulet, slow-cooked stews, rich ragù
- Mushroom and truffle-based dishes
- Yakitori (tare), Wagyu (grilled or seared), jingisukan
- Built for dishes with depth, fat, and umami.
