WHAT IS BLANC DE NOIRS?

"blanc de noirs" in French refers to white wine made from red grapes. This phrase is specifically used to describe Champagnes and other sparkling wines produced entirely from the Pinot Noir grape. To make blanc de noirs, the skins are quickly removed from the juice after pressing to prevent the dark pigment from transferring too much color to the wine. These wines can have hues ranging from pale pink to apricot to salmon but are rarely completely clear or "white."

History: The Mourat winery originated in 1974 when Jérémie Mourat's father purchased the Chateau Marie de Fou estate. Following his father's footsteps, Jérémie, an ambitious young winemaker, took over in 2000 and successfully elevated the prominence of their region, Fiefs Vendéens.

Fiefs Vendéens is situated an hour south of Nantes on the central coast of France and is the westernmost region of the Loire Valley, just 20 km from the beach. 2011, Jérémie acquired Le Moulin Blanc vineyard, where he impressively restored a beautiful white windmill. Today, the mill's sails majestically turn above the 15-hectare site in the Lay and the Yon valleys. Le Moulin Blanc produces two types of wine, a delightful Pinot Noir and a captivating Blanc de Noirs made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes.
