Press review: James Suckling 90 points

Green apples, sliced pears, herbs, and some guava on the nose.

Medium body, fresh acidity, and a fruity mid-palate. Supple and playful with a salivating finish. Sauvignon. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

If you're a fan of fish, I've got some delicious options for you! Try pairing some fine-fleshed sander with shrimp avocado salad or some stuffed artichoke. For something a bit heartier, how about some cod oven-baked in foil? Salmon with sorrel is the way to go if you're in the mood for something lighter. And if you're feeling fancy, don't miss out on the scallop carpaccio. Bon appétit!

Viticulture: organic agricultural practices.

The harvest comes from different plots on both sides other than the château, selected to express the typicality of the Thésée terroir. They are oriented south of the Cher, making Touraine Chenonceaux prestigious.

Vinification is slow at low temperatures to preserve mineral aromas, which make this particular terroir.

Aging on fine lees with stirring in stainless steel tank for 8 months.

An outstanding Chateau. In 2022, Philippe Gaillard and François Gilbert bought Domaine du Bouc in the village of Thésée. They renamed it Château de Thésée because they felt this outstanding site encapsulated one of the most prestigious terroirs in the Cher Valley under the Touraine-Chenonceaux appellation.

Château de Thésée is located in the namesake village, in the heart of the Cher Valley. Its 14 hectares of vines extend over the southern slopes of this tributary of the Loire, allowing the chateau’s vines to produce some of the earliest ripening fruit in the Cher Valley.

The large farmhouse at the heart of the property is steeped in history and illustrates the region’s rich architecture.

The Cher Valley, with its rich history, has been a witness to many thriving vineyards. Well-suited to winegrowing due to its hygrometry and landforms, the region has been home to vineyards since the first century AD. In the Middle Ages, vineyard acreage grew commensurately with the wines' reputation. The present-day Cher Valley offers a superb viticultural heritage and gorgeous countryside where the top chateaux, wooded estates, and characterful vineyards live side by side.

Nearly one thousand years of history. The fascinating story of this vineyard dates back to the 12th century when monks began to farm ‘Bout’ hillside, a dependency of Thésée church, and to the 13th century when a cellar was built beneath the present-day chateau.

Numerous archives, some contemporary with the French Revolution, provide evidence of the location's continuous wine-growing past. They all attest to the interest and passion sparked by this site, whose winegrowing vocation dates back to 1245!

The Chateau de Thésée uses the DIAM cork process, guaranteeing that each closure is free of TCA.

TCA stands for 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (corked wine, bouchonné), a chemical so powerful that even in tiny amounts, it can cause musty aromas and flavors in wines. TCA taint poses no health concerns for wine drinkers and can ruin a wine. Higher levels make a wine smell moldy or musty, like cardboard, damp cement, or wet newspapers. At its worst, the wine is undrinkable.
